Summer blog from Sebastian Schubert

After finishing second at the Olympic selection in May, in Germany, I was disappointed to not be going to the games. Afterwards I decided to rest a little and enjoy the summer with some slalom races and some whitewater paddling... The first 3 world cups took place in Ivrea, La Seu and Pau, all very different courses. Ivrea was new in the circuit and it was worth going there. Nice city, nice water and of course good wine ;-) The race did not go perfectly, I finished 15th in the semi final, but it was not too bad, because I changed my paddle from Lettman to Raab just on Wednesday before the race… In La Seu I finished 20th and in Pau 4th with a really good run, just the French contingent was faster on their home water. After I took a break of a couple weeks and went to Lipno for the Devil's Extreme Race, which was a great experience again. Especially the long distance race (35min) was very nice, I finished 6th from more than 80 competitors. After that I started to prepare for the last two world cups with a training camp in Prague. And it was worth it, I finished 8th in the world cup final. Again the home paddlers were just too strong: Czech paddlers finished top 4… The world cup finale took place in tacen. Due to some private stuff I just came to Tacen on Thursday before the race, so that I had just one session as preparation. In the end I finished 13th. With this results I finished 5th in the overall ranking of the Canoe Slalom World Cup 2016.Now I have new motivation to be better in 2017, I will start my training soon! Article / images : Sebastian Schubert ...
