Billy's Big Red Nose Day Challenge

Comic Relief is one of the UK’s most loved charities, the highlight of Comic Relief’s charity work is their biennial telethon, Red Nose Day. In recent years, this has seen many famous faces taking on mammoth challenges.
So when Comic Relief asked us whether we’d like to help support their latest epic challenge, we jumped at the chance, offering up some specially designed and custom printed equipment.

Professional racing driver and double leg amputee, Billy Monger, set himself  a huge challenge in which he’d attempt to walk, cycle and kayak over 140 miles in four days, in the befittingly coined: Billy’s Big Red Nose Day Challenge!

Having started racing at just six-years-old, Billy quickly became one of Britain’s most exciting young talents in motor racing. In April 2017, following a devastating crash during an F4 race, Billy was left with life-changing injuries, resulting in the amputation of both his legs.

For Billy’s Big Red Nose Day Challenge, Billy needed to be protected from the elements, whilst out training and during his actual challenge day.

We were more than happy to create a custom Racer PFD and matching custom printed Tourlite Long jacket, along with supplying anything else that could make Billy’s first time in a kayak ever as enjoyable as possible, in mid February!!

With a 16.5 mile paddle planned on Ullswater, Lake District, Billy faced epic weather conditions. Where unfortunately the strong winds and rough conditions put both a delay to Billy taking to the water by a day and the use of our specially made jacket to bed..

Once the weather brightened (slightly) Billy took to the water and looked in complete control and comfort in his Adventure Single & Race Custom PFD. However the weather God’s struck again and Billy was forced to stop early, just short of his intended paddle mileage.

We were so proud to support such an amazing Challenge, charity and individual. Watching Billy complete his 140 mile triathlon was truly inspiring. To add to this, Billy raised over £2.37 million !! Unbelievable!

Well Done Billy, we hope that your time spent in a kayak for Billys Big Red Nose Day Challenge won’t be the last time we’ll see you floating about..!!
